The Maine Coon cat is one of the oldest natural breeds in North America and generally thought to have originated from the state of Maine.
This cat was originally a working cat with a great intelligence, living mainly on farms where it was held in high esteem by farmers for its ability to catch vermin. The cat is a typical hunter. It has large eyes and ears, and muscular body. Being a cold climate animal, it has a long silky shaggy coat, short over the head, becoming longer down the back, stomach and legs. There is a soft undercoat, covered by a weatherproof topcoat.
Many people consider the Maine Coon to be one of the most perfect domestic pets because of their loving charactar. It's a perfect family companion and enjoys kids and dogs.
